Mount Rushmore
[info]cass3336

We made it to the one and only mount Rushmore. Mount Rushmore has 4 presidents carved into the Harney Peak Granite. Washington to represent birth as the first president, Jefferson for expansion, roosevelt for development and Lincoln for preservation. Mount Rushmores meaning is democracy. There were 400 workers working on this piece of art from 1927- 1941. Very interesting.

I thought mount Rushmore was going to be a lot bigger. It seemed so small today compared to how it's been portrayed every where else I've seen it.

Mount Rushmore was good to see, a foundation of our History that made the US the democracy it is today:)

AND THE ADVENTURE BEGINS
[info]cass3336
We are leaving tonight! I am at work, unpatiently working my last shift that I will have to work for in a month. Man AM I excited to take a break from working. But if that break is too long, I start to get a little anxiety, and a month is a very long time, which means I will be ready to come back to work! AAAAHHHHH. It will be so worth it though, Ireland, Spain, Minnesota, Road trippin, time with my friends and family.  Can't wait to see you all. I get off at 11pm tonight, which means we will probably be in minnesota late tomorrow night. We are driving through Wyoming, and South Dakota (WHICH WILL BE WAY BETTER THEN NEBRASKA.)  I refuse to ever take that dead awfully borring staright away, AKA Nebraska. I just can't do it. Brian took this way out to Utah when he moved here and said it was great. Gabe and I haven't taken it yet, and it will be fun because we can drive through some cool stuff. And on the way home we are taking the grand junction and driving through Colorado, so that should be very fun! So basically there is 3 ways you can take to get out to the Beehive state of Utah- and my advice is DONT DRIVE THROUGH NEBRASKA!!!!

This is going to be a LONG drive, but I dont mind. I love listening to music in the car and jamming out! Cars packed and ready to go, and Gabe is at home getting a few hours of shut eye before I get off. I still think we will have to stop and sleep somewhere for a little bit. One thing I am looking forward to for road trip stop is Mount Rushmore. Its on the way!
Mount Rushmore is located in the Black Hills in South Dakota:

And on the way home, I hope to go to the Dinosaur National Park! COOL HUH? It's located in Colorado and Utah! You can see over 15,000 Fossils still embedded in the cliffs. Now how cool is that? So much to see in this big ol world.

In Ireland & Spain, I just want to take in as much possible as I can. I am very excited to do our back packing trip on the dingle way trail. To those who want to check it out, heres a link http://www.dingleway.net/. And Spain, oh man, thats going to be a tough one because of the language barrier. I guess I dont regret those 2 years of required college Spanish after all, even though the Spain spanish is way different from South American Spanish. My only worry really is the horrific "M" word. I am scared about MONEY! Luckily, since I have been being a good little girl and paying my bills, my credit card amount has just increased. I dont know if that is a good or a bad thing :/    But in the mean time, it means security for myself and Gabe. I thought maybe since the Euro's currency hasnt been doing so good, that the tourism would have been a little bit cheaper, but thats not the case. Prices dont Change there like they do in Mexico. Prices in Spain are Sticky, which means resistant to change. Read it in this Article,http://www.slate.com/articles/business/moneybox/2012/05/cheap_spanish_vacation_the_euro_euro_is_keeping_spain_way_too_expensive_for_tourists_.html
Just trying to prepare a little bit :) Anyways, my adventure starts soon, and guess what???? I am Pregnant!!!

Just kidding, I am going to get a international phone plan for the following few weeks, so I can try to blog as much as i can on my trip :) Probably alot of editing when I get home, but at least I can write that I am ok and not abducted by some weird strangers or kidnapped by a lepricon, AND to jott down major things that I need to get off my chest there and then. Well I am excited for my journey! See you all very SOON!

Our LiL Green House :)
[info]cass3336

This is a picture of our little green house that we built. Soon there will be plexi glass surronding the frame. Its too early here in Park City to put our plants out, every morning the mountain air is still pretty brisk with a light frost, so we havent quite done that yet. Matt & Lindsay lost some tomato plants by doing that. Our goal is to have them in the green house before we leave, which means we need to get it fully built in the next 2 days. Brian will be around to water out plants & Flowers. Our beans are flourishing right now. We actually should pick them before we leave.

These are the flowers that Gabe bought for me for my birthday! They are beautiful.ROSES. Obviously my vase isnt that classy, but thats all we had. Those Roses didnt like me very much, they kept stabbing my chubby lil fingers. OUCH!

But after 2 hours went by, and dawn was getting close, you know that you had a great conversation. Its comforting to have good conversation about special things you can only tell cetain people.

2 Alpha Males = NO BUENO
[info]cass3336
Alright- last night Panzo and Little Dog got into a fight. It was no ones fault. Theres just some confusion on who was the alpha dog. The situation ended horribley and I had to bring Panzo to the vet to get antibiotics because of his bite from little dog that punctured the skin. I was very shooken up because I couldnt break up the fight. In the mean time, since we are all going out of town around the same time, there was this girl Jess at our friends house who will be watching their dogs. She upseted me very much because she claimed to be an expert on animals. I asked her what education she had with animals, and she said none, and that she was an engineering major. She said that she has experience just from her own pets growing up. When the situation happened, she wanted to let the dogs fight. She said never interrupt a fight either. I know she might be right about interrupting a fight (safety issues as a human), but you have to. YOU CANT LET 2 DOGS KEEP FIGHTING.

Absolutely NOT crazy Fricken Lady! Right then and there my anger was rising and I was about to explode. Finally they were broken up and I put Panzo in the car and left and told her not to touch my dog. I dont agree with this un- educated girl. You dont let 2 alpha dogs battle it out, maybe out in the wild, but we live a domesticated life lady. She encouraged them to not let us break it up. I was absolutely disgusted. If i see this girl again, i have a feeling things wont go over well. Anyways I dug into the question a little bit more; "Should 2 alpha dogs battle it out, and what should you do if they start fighting?" My solution obviously is Panzo will not be able to be around Little Dog ever again. And its not because he is a bad dog, and its not because panzo is a bad dog; they are just 2 alpha dogs and cant handle one another. Its no ones fault.

One lady on another blog wrote,

I am a trainer & a behaviorist. Seperate the dogs until you fix the problem. Especially when feeding. Set the aggressor up to growl or attack the the beta-and apply your correction. Set up and Correct. Use food if you have to. Don’t wait for the dogs to fight. Set up a fighting situation-then apply an appropriate correction-usually a good stiff “pop” to leash-a quick stiff jerk to the leash. Or find another correction. Loud corrections, like an air horn- work well. Electronics work very well in this situation. Test on your self before using. Set up over and over until the stop this behvior. My dogs won’t fight because they do not want me involved in a dispute. You be the alpha and let all the rest be the beta-Period.

(these 2 dogs must obviously live together, and who knows if she is a knowledgable source, but I know one thing and its that I am on the same page as her) Who in their right mind would let two dogs keep fighting, it reminds me of illegial Dog Fighting.

Another person wrote:
When they begin to fight, you have to immediately separate them. It would be great if you could get each to go into a submissive "down" and make them stay there until they relax, then send them to their "spot" for a brief time-out. If you are afraid to get in the middle of things then you will need to get help from a trainer (things may be beyond your control). Otherwise...check their misbehavior immediately. Dogs are pack animals and if you lead them they should have no problems getting along.

My main arguement here is NO, You should not let these animals fight!

Burger King vows cage-free chicken and pork

Burger King vows cage-free chicken and pork  <----------------- Read This!

Thats Awesome! Way to go Burger King. 2017 seems kinda far away, but it looks like they were the first company to participate in this action. I am surprised not to see McDonalds on this list and I am also surprised not to see Target on the list. Burger King & Walmart are beating them! Ha!

Personally, I've always liked shopping at Target better. I just feel that  its more cleaner, sustainabley better, and more humane to their workers, but this graph prooves the opposite of that. I also read a really discouraging article about Walmart, that pissed me off so much. Maybe its outdated though.  I'll try to find it. Its very debatable. I am stuck with Walmart in Park City. I've been to Target twice since I have lived here and usually go to walmart once every 2 weeks.

One lady named a bunch of reasons why she shops at walmart...

First, let me tell you why we shop at Wal-Mart.

  1. Some things are just outright affordable at Wal-Mart and if we buy them from other retail stores, it’s going cost us a significant amount of extra money. (Walmart is affordable and pushes smaller, more unique/local stores out of business. They're also more expensive, which is why, when given the choice, most people choose Wal-Mart.) Walmart is cheap also because they can afford to be cheap, check out what they pay their workers who does their manufacturing.
  2. The Wal-Mart store we general use is really clean - most people find it hard to believe, but that is true - so we don’t have any *cleanliness* barriers that stop us from going there. I think the cleanliness of a store (any store, not just Wal-Mart) depends on it’s manager and it’s staff and probably the guys in our Wal-Mart are good. (I agree with her, but I think a big reason why people think it is so dirty is because of the people that shop there. I am not saying the people are dirty, I am saying they are eccentric and different, and mostly lower class people, which can be associated with "Dirty People"  Its sad to say, but its also true. I got an email yesterday, check it out...)

Anyways- These pictures are suppose to detect the type of people that shop at Walmart. Well I shop there, they must of missed my picture. If the images dont pop up, feel free to go to the website, yup they have a whole website devoted to the people and scenarios:
www.peopleofwalmart.com

  • There is an awesome variety of available choices, so we don’t feel restricted when we shop.
  • It’s easily accessible (not too far from where we live), and it’s open 24 hours. True Dat- Its my only option.
  • For fresh fruits and vegetables, we shop elsewhere (a local farm market), but for most packaged items (perishable and non-perishable), we drive down to Wal-Mart (except when thrift store is an option).

I thought this graph, According to Paul Herman,  was quite intresting as well as the cage free article...Its Basically sizing up Walmart and Target

MOAB- Canyon Lands & Arches National Park
[info]cass3336
This is our campsite and the view. Breathtaking! The desolate desert is so beautiful and peaceful. We left Friday morning and arrived in MOAB about 10:30 AM. We snatched up a campsite at the Sand Flatts, a place familiar to myself because I have Camped there before. We stayed in the very back of the campsite, unlike before. Friday we hiked to Delicate Arch- Utah's signigicant Symbol on license plates. YA GOTTA DO IT! It is in Arches National Park. I've been there before, when we hiked the fiery furnace last summer. Delicate Arch was a nice easy Hike. We took some cool pictures, saw some lizards and petroglyphs. Then we hiked to another Arch. This Park has quite a few arches in the rock, hence thats why they call it Arches National Park. So for me, Arches National Park is pretty much finished on my todo list. Seen Everything There is to see there, moving on...

The next day we ventured in to Canyon Lands National Park, a place that I have never been. The Views here are amazing. It's pretty much full of Canyons,(that must be why they call it canyons lands national park?) (JUST KIDDIN) Anyways, it was beautiful, but very HOT. It was in the 90's this weekend. I have sunburn all over my shoulders, AND yes, I did put sunscreen on. WTF. Brian & I attempted to Hike the Upheaval Dome Hike which is in one of the 3 parts of Canyons Lands called Island in the sky. You see, there are 3 parts to this national park; Island in the Sky, The Maze & The Needles. We Just went to Island in the Sky, but we explored alot of it. Anyways, Upheaval Dome is an 8 mile Hike, that I would highly advise to start early in the morning, because during the hottest hours of the day, you dont want to be hiking it, and it will at least take 5 hours. Brian and I probably did maybe a little less then 1/2 of it, but it was pretty cool. We also went to the Grand View Outlook, which is Amazing. Technically, Canyon lands National Park is the starting of the grand canyon, so could i cross that off my list??? Theres still so much to see of this park, especially since it has 3 parts to it. Then Saturday we got mexican food and went back to the campsite, had some beers and watched the meteor shower. Yup, thats right, a meteor shower. I saw tons and tons of shooting stars. It was pretty Neat.
